Short Works Festival

Short Works Festival
SHORT WORKS FESTIVAL 2021: A collection of short pieces featuring two undergraduate directors and three undergraduate puppeteers.

YOU CAN SEE ALL THE STARS
Anna is a college student whose life has been shattered. This play examines her struggle as she picks up the pieces with the help of some persevering friends.

TO THE BONE
Inspired by the video game Undertale, players control a human who falls into the world of underground monsters and has to find their way out. This is a retelling of the premise sung by brothers Papyrus and Sans,  but with a decidedly Marionette Puppet Theater flavor.

OVER THE GARDEN WALL
An exploration of live puppet work and inspired by the animated series Over the Garden Wall, this play follows Wirt,  his little brother Greg, a pet frog, and a bluebird friend called Beatrice, as they try to find their way home through a strange and ever-autumnal landscape called "the unknown." Along the way they discover that the place is populated by strange characters including a woodsman with a lantern that keeps ever-burning, and a dark shadow, who's haunting siren song seduces travellers into its dark embrace.

LOBBY HERO
When Jeff, a luckless young security guard, is drawn into a local murder investigation, loyalties are strained to the breaking point. As Jeff’s tightly wound supervisor is called to bear witness against his troubled brother, and an attractive rookie cop finds she must stand up to her seasoned partner, truth becomes elusive and justice proves costly.

BRUTAL
A puppet rendition of singer Olivia Rodrigo's punk-rock song "Brutal," this short expresses the frustration, fear and angst of a teenager entering adulthood.
